We would like to start video/live streaming our board meetings. Does anyone do this now and if so, what type of equipment are you using? Looking for good quality equipment at a fair price.

I personally wouldn't touch video (huge files), or even audio (still large files). Meeting minutes are sufficient.

But, you could do facebook live (4 hour max).

As far as equipment, you could use a simple setup:

- the hoa facebook account
- laptop
- usb webcam
- 1 microphone

As for more complex setups? The sky is the limit.

Or to test it, go cheap. Zero budget. See if people want it.

- Facebook account
- your cell phone

It's not right to make people use Facebook. Some people just won't do it under any circumstances. The cost is giving up significant privacy. I would fight hard against my HOA if it tried to tell me that the only way I could fully participate in all HOA activities was to use Facebook. Not just no...

Although I personally agree facebook is evil. One can setup a facebook page for the HOA and the public can view it without logging in. You wouldnt need an account to view whats going on, you would simply need one to comment, etc.

We do not use nor allow any HOA business to be posted on Facebook. So no, I would not stream any meeting on Facebook. It would have to be streamed on our HO)A web site or we just record it and post it a few days later.

Its not so simple.

Facebook the records the metadata of every cellular call you ever made, including time and duration and metadata about every text message I’ve ever received or sent. And more.

So if any of your board members or HOA members has facebook app on their phone, facebook already has plenty of data on them and your HOA. If you dont think so, you dont know how the facebook app works.

As for not allowing facebook business? Anyone can post anything on facebook they want. There might even be an HOA page that you dont even know about on facebook with homeowners and board members talking about HOA business. Its best to make your own facebook page before someone else does first.

As for streaming your own video files? Bandwidth costs could be very, very expensive. Just something to keep in mind. Typically a provider will simply shut your web site down if you exceed your limit or what they think is reasonable, even if its unlimited.
