Our new board of directors are on a power trip and are trying to re-write the administrative secretary's job description which is in our by-laws. This person has been with us for 15 years and was hired when the previous secretary quit. This new secretary immediately found incidents of theft to the community from the previous secretary. Our new (and current secretary) cleaned up the books and files and got the office running so well that the lawyer and accountant praised her work at every general membership meeting! She knows her job very well! And more! Any thoughts on what the membership of the community can do to save this lady's job? P.S. She always goes above and beyond for our community members!

Umm...you and your neighbors should rise up and let the board know in no uncertain terms how you feel about her. Make them explain why they feel it's necessary to rewrite the position - and read the description yourself to compare the two (perhaps they're cleaning up minor issues).

If they resist, well, you and your neighbors voted for these people so you should also know what is necessary to vote them out (check your documents as a reminder). Make sure you have people ready to step up and take over if it comes to that.

Say, Maryanne, can you quote the section in your bylaws about the "Administrative Secretary," including the job description?

What do your bylaws say about how to amend them, i.e., rewrite this job description? In many HOAs, it take Ownrs' votes a with often simple majority to pass. In other HOA, the Board may amend the bylaws.
