Good Afternoon Condo Owners in Florida. I am working on a petition drive in Florida to get legislator to change the rules on HOA's restrictions on Management Company selection for your unit. Currently, HOA's can say who will manage your condo rental which in turn they have the power to set price, rules, billing and reservation. This is NOT fair to unit owners who are no happy with current management companies/HOA's in house Rental Programs, and owners are powerless to do anything about their grievances. I am working to develop a petition that will force Florida to enact a change to favor unit owners and NOT HOA's. If you are interested, please email me at [email protected] (Florida owners only). I am looking to get between 15,000 to 30,000 signatures to get this change enacted so that we as owners have more control over our assets than the HOA's who actually only care for their pocket books and not ours. Thank you. Troy Moore

Troy,

I applaud you for trying to enact change. However, you give no specifics.

When one political campaign used the phrase "fundamentally change America" nobody asked the question: How?

On behalf of others, I would ask you HOW would you change - that is, what exactly are you proposing?
When answering, please be respectful of the sites posting rules.

On a side note, I completely disagree that owners are powerless. Owners have the most power in Associations if they choose to use it. The membership are the ones who elect those who serve and have this authority. The members can remove those previously elected. Unfortunately, many simply do not want to become involved leaving those who are willing to serve (for whatever reason) serving. In my opinion, the problem isn't the boards or the MC. The problem is apathy within the membership.

The MC always works under the direction of the Board of Directors.

"owners have more control over our assets than the HOA's who actually only care for their pocket books and not ours".

Shouldn't this read MC's? Owners already have that control by election of the Board officers the work for the HOA.

I'm not understanding what you are trying to accomplish.

Troy,

I would FAR prefer Florida to favor HOAs over individual owners.
