I'm interested to read what other associations are doing to make their community's (CA-based) pool area more secure, primarily to keep out non-residents. We have investigated keyless systems, additional (taller) fencing around the pool area, and security cameras. Recently, we started seeing the pool gate being propped open.
How do other association address these issues?
Thank you for your feedback.

Do you have any security personnel? Or would board members try to enforce?

How is it that non-residents have such easy access to your premises and you pool?

We were having problems with non-residents using our pool also. Originally, we installed a mechanical lock on the gate and we could manually change the 4 digit could when we needed to. It got to the point where some residents were giving the code to non-resident friends. Someone actually posted the code on Facebook for all to see. It seems we were changing the code weekly, and that was getting cumbersome. The lock finally broke, and saw it as an opportunity to upgrade to an elctromagnetic lock set up to be used with a fob that each household is given. With a little tweeking, we have a system that allows us to activate/deactivate any single fob as needed. We can also restrict open/closing times of pool, and if someone leaves the gate propped open for more than a minute, an alarm will sound. We also can track which fob is being used for entry (date/time) Our system has been up and running flawlessly for over two years now and it put an end to outsiders using the pool, except for the occasional fence climber. Our fence is only 5' tall, we should have gone with at least 6'

We have an alarm system installed... each time the gate is opened (after a 5 second delay) an alarm goes off and it remains sounding until the gate is closed.

Thanks for your feedback, Jerry. Good to hear about your system and that it's working. We'll probably have to do something along those lines.
Best,
Steve

We went with new secured keys last year. They can not be duplicated. We also registered with the local police police dept. with "No Trespassing" hours. Didn't stop people with not checking that the gate didn't always "close". The gate alarm is a great idea and we will look into that next year. Can't enjoy the pool when an alarm is screeching because the gate didn't close.
