Anyone in the Northern Virginia area able to recommend a tree service? Our previous one closed business because the owner/operator was in poor health, and the new one is not much to our liking ... recommending unneeded work. You can send me a private message if you like.

We usually do not give recommendations for contractors. You should look up these services on other site. Like your local Better Business Bureau website for complaints. You also want to verify their license and insurance. Angie's list is a resource can use for recommendation.

Our HOA always took 3 bids on every project. I prefer tree services where an actual Arborist own the company. They will do a better thorough inspection of your issues like any tree diseases. We used one and he identified a pine needle infestation in a few trees. One eventually fell on a house that was infested. So it's important to heed their advice.

I am looking for a tree service myself. Never hire anyone that has a magnetic sign on the side of a truck. Plan for damages. It will happen. Our Tree service we hired cut a few cable lines and power line to an outdoor lamp. They did fix it within a few days. The damage came from roots ripping them when trees fell or from grinding. They are considered one of the best in town and can't say it was due to "bad" work. It is sometimes the nature of the job as it's risky.

Donna,

I think I still have your email address. If not, I'll ask you send it to me.
I'll check tomorrow.
