So we had just found out the HOA next to us wants to build closer. They think its a great idea and even said they wanted to build bridges or walk ways joining the two neighborhoods. The rest of the board and I think this idea is crazy. Just a few reasons why I do not think this will work but also looking for more reasons to present concerns or reasons why it wont work for either neighborhood.

Why would we want their traffic.

Trouble from their residents.

Their people trying to use our amenities.

In what possible way would we benefit from this?

Even if the bridges were built in some small odd chance we decided to do this the upkeep is not something we want to pitch in for.

If you can think of anything else please provide some extras to add to my list.

I would add Iron gate extensions to the tops of the block walls that abut your property lines.
That is the most asinine Idea I have ever heard of. Unless they want to annex your HOA and even then it would open up a can of worms "ripe ones"

I would politely tell them to go pound sand.

Yep, we actually could not believe that he would ask us this. I got the info for the HOA management company but they will not return my emails nor calls when I asked to talk to their board members.

Hi. I wouldn't chase them for a response. If it's that important to them they'll continue to contact you.

Your list is good, but who are you making it for? The other HOA or your own BOD?

We had this happen a few years ago. A developer bought land abutting our HOA and thought it would be nice to make a road connecting us. We didn't want the "pass thru" traffic of people going to the local high school etc. We politely informed them (at the zoning meeting since that was their first contact with us) that it would take 75% of the community voting in favor of this to be able to sell the land owned by our HOA to be able to build a road on it. The developer immediately knew that wasn't going to happen and withdrew the request to connect the roads.

Well the meeting is tonight and so he wants to put on a fancy show to let us see what he has in mind. We have all discussed he will have a short period of time to speak and then politely tell him no. The city told us to shut him down tonight before they become a real pain then we have to go to a city meeting. So being the VP myself the list is basically when he states is there any questions and I use those above to deny him. Using the 67 percent rule might discourage him specially seeing we have 1500 homes in our neighborhood and they see the small amount that actually show.

Is this a Board Meeting or an Annual Meeting? Is he a member of your HOA? How did he get on the agenda?

Guess I'm asking why the Board is giving him any time at all as the Board makes the agenda.

This is just a regular monthly board meeting. We decided to let him speak his mind as we had the extra 10 minute slot available as we go over everything else. He will be in and out at the first of the night as he is just a guest not part of our HOA. Again the neighborhood next to us there is some acres between us but they want to expand and build bridges connecting our neighborhood with theirs which is nothing less then stupid.

If they cannot do it without your agreement, I don't know why you need a list of reasons not to. The board thinks there is no benefit to the HOA is all the reason you need. Of course, if there are perceived benefits to your membership then you might owe them a response, but you don't need an explanation for the other HOA.

John,
I think it is good to let him speak. It is better to know the enemy than wonder what they are up too. Our community had all our existing amenities and fully mature trees in our Parks and walkways so where do you think the newbies would spend time.

We had a similar request that was shot down quickly a few years ago. One thing I might add to your list is with 2 different HOA boards how would you know who would handle any bad actors?

Great point Mark and I was thinking that same thing...unless we draw ugly lines out places who is to saw one person crosses a certain line when going for tree trimming or anything else of that nature.
