Video Recording Meetings, Part 2/8: I consult our attorney
When I decided to video record our monthly meetings, I needed to get a legal opinion from our HOA attorney before doing so. I explained to her that I wanted to record the meetings for my own use as a resident and not as a board member.
She said I could do this, and that any resident at a meeting could video or audio record as well. Since I was not recording as a board member, no board vote or approval would be needed, and the recording would be my personal property. I would not have to provide copies to the other board members, nor make it available to our residents.
But then she said she recommended that I do not record the meetings, and I learned a big lesson about legal advice and how it sometimes doesn't match reality.
