We have loud elevator beeping and want it replaced with verbal announcement of floors. Our elevator does both. Our elevator company won’t remove beeping city old ADA law. 2010 ADA law allows verbal only. Anyone know what is required? Thank you.

Is said "verbal announcement of floors" multi lingual ?

A verbal announcement IN ADDITION to the (required) beeping is a nice touch.

Call the county/city code enforcement department. They should tell you what is required for ADA/Elevators. I would say the beeping is for the blind? We have an elevator at a building I worked at that announces the floors. I really liked it and had a weird accent. The elevator in building I am in now does not beep or announce floors. We are lucky it takes you to the floor you want to go or the lights light up.

NOT ADA compliant UNLESS the employees are required to be fluent in English AND the building is NOT a 'place of public accommodation'.

A beeping elevator takes care of ALL requirements

ADA requires beeping OR a verbal announcement so yes, you could have verbal only under ADA. However, a local or state law could still require a beep.

•There should be visible and audible signals to indicate which elevator car is available, its direction, and when it has reached a designated floor.

? Do verbal 'signals' in a specific language suffice ? Hindi ? English ? Russian ?

Your guess is as good as mine.

That's a legal question, so you might ask the association attorney or Google ADA and see what comes up.

That said, it seems to me beeps and announcements are overkill, but if they are required, couldn't the volume simply be turned down a bit?
