We have been keeping our community pool at 83-84 degrees. We have one elder woman(the daughter of the owner of one of the units here) is demanding that the heat be up to o/a 90. Attempting to keep the temperature at o/a 90 degrees would do harm to the heater. She then says that we should install two heaters in the pool heater room and run both of them.... We would have to have an assessment in order to make the pool heater room larger and then another heater hook up. Has anyone else had such a problem?

How many members in the association?

I would put it out to a vote of the membership and let them decide.

The lady should move to Az. Our pools are like bath water after memorial day.

why would you even consider such a change based upon the request of a tenant ?

unless she is an owner she is a tenant

legally speaking

I wouldn't vote.

I would refer them to the following articles:

Managing Swimming Pool Temperature for Energy Efficiency From the US Dept of Energy

What’s the right temperature for your pool?

What is The Perfect Swimming Pool Temperature? from a pool contractor

Suggested Swimming Pool Temperatures from the US Water Fitness Association

There are other articles out there.

Based on what I read, it sounds like you have your pool set at a good temp for the majority of people.

I, too, would even consider such an unreasonable request. And I don't see one person requesting this to be a "problem." Why should all Owners pay higher energy bills, etc., for the sake of one.

I also see this as a Board not Owner decision. And Tim (I didn't read them) provides excellent citations.

One of our Board members had such request on our agenda a few months ago---raising it from the current 84 to 90 because he thought it'd attract more users (!!??) The lap swimmers argued mightily against it in our first Open Forum and the rest of us directors had no interest. The director withdrew his motion.

Respond that her request has been received. Then don't do anything.

Some people need to learn that they can only demand what they have power to command. Even our president needs to learn this.
