After an election with new board members who is allowed to continue to run the meeting? Former president was not reelected however she continued to run the meeting and wouldn't let the new board have a say.

So...then what happened, Erin? Did the new board elected officers? Are you on the New Board? How many directors are there?

The new board hasn't elected officers yet, to be done at their next meeting. This is our townhomes HOA which is part of a master, I'm on the Master and this didn't sound right to me. Former president was trying to make motions to approve business but would not let newly elected members have a vote.

Do your ByLaws say when the newly elected Board is to take office/take over from the prior board?

At the next Board Meeting all New Elected Board Members need to take control. They need to stand up and inform this individual that they are NOT an elected board member and therefore need to take a seat in the meeting audience vs the head table. LOL ... some people will push the limit until told otherwise.

Erin,

Typically, the results are announced at the end of the meeting.

Keep in mind that Directors and Officers are two different positions, even if held by the same individual.

Technically, the President is to preside over all meetings of the Association.
The President is an Officer positions.
Officers stay in place until they resign or the next board appoints someone else.

The way we did in the Masters in July was holding election first, new members were elected and then we closed that meeting and began the regular member meeting and at the beginning we appointed positions and the new board was fully involved in the meeting. I'm not sure what they did but hopefully they get it figured out.

Hi Erin, would it perhaps be more accurate to say that none of the new directors wanted to be "confrontational" with the former president? Unfortunately, sometimes this is the most expeditious option for dealing with someone like this.

All motions the former president made should be shown in the Minutes as being null and void. The new Board should speak with the former president in private and ask if she is going to continue pretending to be on the board or an officer. The new board should consult the hoa attorney as needed about to handle this. One option HOAs exercise from time to time is to hire a security guard to escort disruptive attendees, including a former president, to a seat and possibly, as needed, out of the meeting.
