This happened across from our HOA. Just two nights ago our security company chased off some squatters that set up shop along the communities block wall.
Then two days later this happens.

Gosh Janet, not every new topic post has to be a question. Sometimes people are just posting an interesting story or sharing something that happened in their particular HOA that may have relevance to others. I think we can all learn from each other.

I feel awful for the single mother who was buying one of the homes - Since I brought an older home, I didn't know until this article that you can buy homeowner's insurance for a home under construction (a standard policy or dwellings and fire - see http://www.lasvegasnow.com/news/homes-under-construction-burn-in-fire/814936995 for more information)

Hopefully, the builder will try to work something out with her if she still wants to move in the community. It's hard to say if that fire is connected to the squatters who were in LetA's community, but with fall on the horizon, it's a good idea for a HOAs to remind people of taking steps to prevent fire (e.g. don't burn leaves) and double-check their homeowner policies to ensure they have the right coverage and have their agent compare it with the association's master policy (for townhomes and condos, especially) to prevent over or under insurance coverage. their coverage doesn't overlap what the association's master policy might cover.

If it is not right do not do it; if it is not true do not say it. Marcus Aurelius

LOL ... They chased off squatters and then this happened. Sorry Bancs ... I potentially see an underlying question and simply asked. If you want to beat me up for asking ... that is OK because I can take it

That is a good question Sheila. Who is responsible for insurance? The builder or the person under contract to buy the home?

We as a community, neighbors included are sick and tired of all the degenerates and vagrants that prowl our HOA and surrounding neighborhoods. We are now especially vigilant and will not hesitate to call 911 or our security company. Day before yesterday some barefoot junkie decided to shoot up and OD in our gated community, and yesterday an inmate from a neighboring HOA halfway house was busted prowling inside our HOA gated walls.

My major beef is with the City of Las Vegas, I live in an unincorporated part of the county. The CLV keeps "cleaning up" Freemont Street of all the Vagrants & Homeless, they keep pushing them farther down Boulder Highway into my neck of the woods. The police don't care about property crimes because all they care about protecting is the cash cow on the boulevard.

Wasn't meant as a "beat me up" post. I'm sorry you took it that way. It was just an observation because you said the same thing to me when I posted the story about my HOA achieving 100 percent collection of assessments last year.

Sorry ... you would need to post the link to that post you are referencing. I have made 3,300+ posts and for me to remember "one" based on a story about an HOA achieving 100 percent collection of assessments last year ... AND ... being the same or related to the OP's question???
