Want to install patio doors for my new home, have some experience in installing by my own. Can I do it by myself or should I ask for a professional for patio?

That is up to you. If you can do it and are comfortable with it, then do it. Will warn though that you may need to ask permission from your HOA if that type/style of patio doors are allowed. Usually exterior elements like doors/windows/paint do need approval prior to installation.

The ability to install a door and to install it yourself will depend on what your legal documents allow. So check these carefully and ask questions and get association written permission via the required process.

In our community doors, windows, walls, etc. are common elements. While we may grant a variance to install such a door, we would require professional installation by a licensed and insured contractor.

With Melissa & James, what do your documents permit?

Is your home a condo or detached home?

Kerry, our condo units are attached - 3 units to a building. Our Board must approve any alterations which must be consistent with the character (style, material, finish, color, etc.) of the community. Besides requiring professional installation, the unit owner must take full responsibility for the cost of future repair or maintenance of the alteration.

Our approval process was developed by a group of owner volunteers, reviewed by all the owners and approved as a rule by the Board.

If your in an Association, regardless of who installs them, you probably need to seek approval from the Association for the change to the exterior.

DO THIS PRIOR TO INSTALLATION!
