I'm seeking accounting program alternative or a good invoicing. I thought I would be more successful finding something that was free. It appears like every software that advertises as an app that is free isn't really free. If I can not locate an invoicing program that is free, I 'm at least looking for a fine looking invoice template that I can use to create invoices for my customers. Please, don't recommend invoice templates from programs that cost money, like Microsoft products.

Once I find something good, I'll be sure to pay it in this forum and in others.

I understand wanting to save money, but sometimes you have to bite the bullet and spend the money to get something that will be cost effective at the end. Putting together accounting software takes time, so I wouldn't expect anyone to spend all that time on something and then offer it for free.

You say you don't want a Microsoft product, but I also know the Excel and Access programs have templates you can adapt to your use - that, plus a book on how to use it (which you may be able to find at the local library for free) may help you.

Or find a college student who might want to assist you in designing something so he/she can earn class credit. Good luck to you.

Search "Google Doc Invoice Template" for some free templates. Create a free Google account w/ free email (Gmail), free document storage (Drive), and a host of other free "apps".

As far as accounting programs or software. While you'll probably find some that offer a free trial or free with very limited capability, you'll likely need to pay for long-term use or greater capability.

If you want free software without strings, I'd say your best bet is open source. sourceforge.net is a popular place to find open source solutions, I searched for "Accounting" and a bunch of packages came up. Sorting by popularity, it seems turboCASH might be worth looking at. I've never used it and know nothing about it so I can't vouch for it other than saying that I use various open source solutions and am generally happy with them.
