Hi,

Can anyone recommend a fire alarm system repair guy in the San Francisco Bay Area? We have an old system from the seventies and it needs a knowledgeable old-timer that can trouble shoot the electronics from that time. New generation of repair guys don't understand the electronics well enough to figure some potential crossed wiring. Otherwise we are going to need to upgrade to a new system and it will be quite expensive for the association.

Thanks,
Tino

Just what dollar value do your members place on your lives that makes trying to repair an obsolete fire alarm such a good idea?

I am an electronic technician and electrician. Doubt very much it's not the electronics/wiring has changed. It's basically time to update/upgrade. Which many of these companies are in the business of. They want to sell you a new and THEIR system. It's much easier for them to just replace than repair.

If your looking for recommendations, why not ask the fire marshal/fire department? They may have some recommendations to help. Plus they would know the code requirements. Your most likely "grandfathered" in with the system you currently have. However, may have to consider new codes if you do update/upgrade.

A good electrician most likely could trouble shoot your issues. Especially if there is some cross-wiring you suspect. The long run your all most better off with a new upgrade. Plus call the insurance company. IF you upgrade, it may mean a lower insurance rate. A better alarm system can save one money in other areas.
