Question. I share a mailbox with a neighbor. The same neighbor that is (and still continues to be) upset that he didn't get the president position on our board. His wife has asked (by text) that I take the Christmas decor off of HER side of the box. It's curved on the top and the decor straddles both sides. They didn't have a problem with in the last two years but now 'all of the sudden' she does. What do you suggest? How would you deal with that?? Are people REALLY this petty????

Yes, they can be this petty. Ironically today I got told could not bring in my Christmas tree we have used for years at work due to our new boss... Your Christmas decoration is more for your benefit than your neighbors. Since you share and it's not shared benefit, then it's got to go.

I'll be happy to as soon as they remove the lights from the side of their house that shine INTO mine lighting up the guest bath AND master bedroom.. Funny they didn't have a problem until this year.. Petty vs Petty no one wins

Remove the decor and move on with life.
It's that simple of an answer.

To answer your question, Yes - apparently (from your response to Melissa) people can be that petty.

Yes Tim, they have pushed me to this point. I have ignored ALL the tactics they have done up to this point and I'm afraid I have reached my limit.

I have ignored all of it. And these actions are from a board member!! A board member mad because he didn't get the office he wanted on the board..
I would have thought he would have moved on at this point but apparently not...

And these actions are from a board member!!

Would your perspective be different if your neighbor wasn't a board member?

Directors are human and have faults just like everyone else.

You said yourself that nobody wins in a petty this for that argument.

You indicate that you thought they should have moved on by now.
Well, to be honest, you should have moved on by now also.

Take the higher road and let it go.
Your life and health will be better for it.

When faced with these annoyances, just laugh it off (which is also a good way to get under someone elses skin who can't let things go). How do you think your neighbor would have reacted when they approached you about removing the holiday decor if you simply laughed and said "fine, it will be gone by the end of the day." ??
