I'm the President of our MN HOA and we have a total of 5 Board of Directors and this is my 1st year as president and our Treasure has been difficult from day one. I had initially asked her to be the Treasury for the Board and sign checks for vendors that needed to be paid. We had our bldg painted this past summer and needless to say the painters were not good at their job and we had to address several issues regarding the quality of the paint job.

Our Treasure refused to sign the check until the vendors fixed the issues, which is fine so we had the vendor come back 4 times and everyone was happy with the results. The Treasure still refused to sign the check and this went on for several months so I finally stepped in and said that the check needed to be paid and it was not open for further discussion since they had come back and everyone except her was happy. She got mad and asked me who I thought I was to tell her that it had to be paid so when we had our board meeting I once again asked her to sign the check and I also put it to a vote to the other board member asking if they thought the bill should be paid. The other board members all felt it should be paid and she still refused to sign it so I signed it. I now sign the checks so I know that they get paid.

She talks over everyone and will not listen to anything I say or anyone else and everyone walks out of the meeting with a headache because when someone else tries to speak she talks louder above them. I have talked to her about bullying and the way she has treated people a couple of times and of course she says she is not bullying anyone.

She has been working on updating our Party Room Rules & Regulations and doing a great job, but we say that what she has needs to be changed that we don't what something in the rules and she will not listen. It's like she is going to do what she wants and what we say doesn't matter.

I have thought maybe if I not give her any responsibilities that might help. Does anyone have any suggestions how I should handle this?

The Board can likely remove her from office. She would remain a member of the Board unless removed by the general membership, but the Board likely votes in it's officers.

You WITH the rest of the Board need to stand up to her. BOARDS GOVERN HOAS, NO PARTICULAR OFFICER DOES, NOT THE PRESIDENT EITHER. (sorry about CAPS). Everyone has ONE vote.

Try make a rules for meeting conduct that Directors vote on. Need only be a few, and one is: Directors speak when recognized (called on) the presser; interruptions are not permitted.

Re: her role as treasurer, as Mark says, your Board may vote her our out of that office an elect a different treasurer.

Meantime have her turn in her Party room suggestions well before you next meeting and let the Board VOTE on each!

Just curious how many homes in you HOA? condos, or?? Do you have a property mgr.? (PM)

Please see my above suggestions. Sorry about my typo. The presider (usually the president) must recognize any director before they speak. There may be no interruptions when someone speaks. A gavel can do wonders.
