How much on average does it cost your community to have one 24/7 guard at the gate? We have a community of 201 homes and was trying to see if it made financial sense to go that route.

should cost about $18 / hr x 24 = $3024 / week = $157,248 / yr = $13104 /mo = $65.2. per home per month

assuming no vacation or sick time or holiday pay

Don't forget, if they are an employee, you have taxes that have to be paid.

You mean three 8 hour shifts, so three guards, right?

FL employment laws might require you provide vacay & other benefits for full-time employees.

We pay our officers 12-$14/hr. (depending on length of service) plus benefits and a cut to the vendor who provides them.

You can also bid a contract out to hire a company to provide security.
This eliminates the need to pay employer taxes

For FL you have to use a licensed guard company.

How much is the cut to the vendor?

I don't have a break down handy, JohnC, but I believe that the combination of the Offcer's wage plus bennies plus what we pay our vendor is 28-38%, just can't quite remember.

Why not check with a local licensed company--as Edward notes-- that deals with such workers?

The vendor really is not making that much money. And be forewarned, hiring the lowest bidder you are only going to attract Burger King dropouts that get hired by these security companies. Spend a few dollars more and make sure you get quality candidates with training and experience like G4S.

18-24 DPH is about right, depends if you want armed or unarmed guards.

Our HOA paid $15 DPH to a security guard company that paid $9 DPH to a youth breather for peak times at the pool in the summer..
