Anyone have any experience with traditional (tenting with gas) vs. thermal fumigation?

The new technology of thermal fumigation does not require a complete three day move out, uses high heat instead of chemicals, and has been used extensively by the University of California and other local schools for fumigation. Cost is similar, guarantee is similar. In addition to termites, it supposedly kills various bacteria and molds too.

Almost sounds too good to be true.

We've got to fumigate all three buildings. . .would love any info from anyone who's already been down this road.

Thanks!

Hi Dawn:

There's an old saying, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." With that in mind, I would recommend checking with your local BBB regarding the company that is offering the service, and find out a few references within the UCal system and talk with them. Look on the internet to see what you can find about this system. Talk with other service providers and see what they think of it, if they offer it, etc. (with a grain of salt, as those who do not use it may bad-mouth it to make themselves seem better...). Check out the issue as thoroughly as you can before committing any money. Even then, if you're not sure, you might try one building with this treatment and see how effective it is before commiitting to all three buildings.

This seems like it might be a whole lot more environmentally friendly than using chemicals; if it works, that would be great.

Too good to be true. . .my thoughts exactly. Trying to do our research, but unfortunately, there are radically conflicting opinions among fumigation companies who will or will not recommend heat fumigation for "whole structures". . .

Thanks for your input!

DawnL: if you have contacted a thermal fumigation company who has explained the 'positives' of this type of fumigation, how about asking them for referrals? Since they have Univ. of California as a client, perhaps you could seek their input?
