We are a small HOA in rural Colorado. The CCRs currently restrict any trailer, RV, camper etc from being parked on an owner's property. The members are interested in "loosening" the restriction to allow for some trailers, etc, but still want to establish kind of limit (length, GVW, number of axles, etc).

Does anyone have an example for this kind of restriction? Thanks in advance!

Keep in mind that you will need to have enough support to amend the CC&Rs to make this change.

Our CC&Rs specify: Vehicles which could be classified as campers (i.e., containing sleeping and/or eating facilities) cannot exceed 19 feet by 6 feet 6 inches by 9 feet 10 inches in size. Vehicles which exceed this size shall not be parked in the subdivision

Thanks Tim! I understand the need for owner approval (2/3 in our case). Do you have anything specific for trailers? (We have a lot of ATV enthusiasts!)

We don't allow trailers.

However, the best I've seen on this topic allowed them if:

1) They were parked in the garage
2) They were screened from view (which may require the Association to allow driveway expansions and fencing).

The best restrictions were specific: No parking of trailers on driveways or streets between the hours of x to x.
This wording eliminates the definition of overnights and eliminates the challenges of "I didn't park it overnight I moved it there at 3 am"

You may also want to do an internet search on HOA parking restrictions.
This can provide you with various language others are using, which will give you an idea of what you like or dislike.

Adding on to Tim's suggestion - when you see a variety of restrictions, you might want to take a poll among the homeowners to see what they really like or don't like - that'll give you an idea on what type of restrictions would be useful. Be sure to send a draft of the new rules to the homeowners to get their take on that before the finals are edited and approved.
