I attended a hoa conciliation case where a party mentioned that she was following the recommended advice of the Attorney Generals office and making a claim in conciliation court. The judge and the hoa lawyers snickered. One them them repeated the words, Attorney Generals Office, and snickered again. What did I miss that was funny?

See http://www.mncourts.gov/Help-Topics/Conciliation-Court.aspx

Conciliation court is name for small claims court.

If you're talking to a judge in a higher level court, snickering may be because he thinks its beneath him.

HOA lawyers snicker at everything you say if you're the opposition.

I don't know about Minnesota but around here if you call the AG's office there is zero chance that you will speak to the AG himself. There is not much chance that you will even speak with an attorney at all. What you would likely get would be advice from a receptionist whose deepest hope at that moment is that you will go annoy someone else. In my state the AG's office does not give legal advice to citizens.

A person who would pursue a case in the belief that they were advised to do so by the Attorney General is totally clueless.

She had one of those form letters that the AG office sends out to anyone with an hoa complaint.

I thought the inside joke was the the AG office doesn't do shit for hoa owners. I wasn't sure and thought maybe I missed out on the joke.

I remember when I contacted my attorney generals office regarding a matter they referred me to an agency that has no legal authority and gave me a printout of that agencies website in which it stated that they no longer had authority. I am sure had a gone to court stating that I was sent there a judge or attorney may get a laugh.
