Stair CLIMBER CHAIR We asked to have a chair climbing rail installed on common steps at our expense. We were not hand I capped when we moved in. We were denied even though the chair would sit in position on our private deck. We are being forced to move. CarolE14

Carol,

You are not being forced to move.
You are being forced to fight.
Contact HUD and they will be able to assist and guide you in this issue.

Carol,

Others here will be able to provide more detail but it sounds like you have the basis for a complaint under the federal Fair Housing Act. This requires HOA's and condo associations to make reasonable accommodations to make a unit handicap-accessible. The act does not require the association to pay for improvements, so your request to install the chair lift at your own expense is just what the act allows.

Tim & Larry are right, Carol.

But a question: Is there any other access to your home that you're able to use? In other words are these common area stairs the only way you can get to your home & deck?
