We are small, standalone homes. We had one owner who whined all the time about water running off her adjacent neighbor's house/property and flooding her driveway and lawn. She even put some sand bags along her driveway to divert the water. Her house was on a small incline so no water ever came near her house. We talked to both neighbors and even went as far as to tell one she might need to add gutters. She said she would but she did not see it as an issue. We notified our landscaper. He came out during a thunderstorm and said there was no standing water plus the water running down her driveway was also from her own home. We asked her to remove the sand bags. She wrote several nasty letters and threatened to sue us all.

A month later she decided to sell her home. The first thing the realtor told her was to get rid of the sand bags which she did. She sold and the new owners have lived there for several months including our early summer, afternoon, sever thunder showers. The new owners have said nothing about the water to anybody.

Do some people just look for $hit to complain about?

Yes.

It's the "do you see the glass half full or half empty" perception of life.

Yes and some like to drag others into their drama. And it's easy to do. Working in a front office I hear lot's of it. I try very hard not to get drawn in. One has to listen though and be diplomatic.

No every homeowner in every HOA is a reasonable, rationale human being who never plays any role in their own unfortunate situations. They are all victims who simply need to be given what they want, when they want it without any questions and at no cost to them. If only those monsters serving on the board understood this.. It's clearly their fault.

Maybe this woman moved someplace where it does not rain. My view would be good riddance.

Yup.

It does seem that way at times. We have one homeowner who is a conspiracy theorist and constantly makes predictions and complaints that never seem to materialize.

This person is like the old man that walks down the street carrying a sign that reads "the world ends tomorrow."

We just ignore this person.

They don't materialize because the HOA conspired to hide it from the members

Was it "complaining" or perhaps it was a case of the more insidious owner....the one who lives for self-created drama?

What I have noticed is that there is an increasing number of people who must have some constant, on-going DRAMA. The drama must ALWAYS be broadcast to the rest of the planet(these people also live for social media sites). If the drama is resolved or quieted, a brand new drama must be created. And the dramatic individual must always be the wronged party and can never be held accountable for anything that they do/say/write/create. Drama lovers also tend to tell falsehoods, omit information, or embellish the truth to create the illusion that they are being wronged. The drama lover will become overly defensive when hit with the truth or twist the story to suit their needs.

Our "culture" has become one of people positively addicted to entertainment. They watch too much television and too many movies. The explosion of gossip-tainment and reality TV reinforces it every step of the way. Some people really do believe that their lives are incomplete unless there's some sort of drama always playing out and the social media stuff - an absolute pox on civilization - creates a feedback loop that amplifies it all.

LOL

Yes, that does seem to be the prevailing theory - at least, according to this person. A new post on their renegade website this morning claims exactly that.
