Try your Secretary of State's office.

Typically state Articles of Incorporation are not customized to/for a specific association. They are more generic and apply to all corporations. Most HOA's fall under a state's Articles of Incorporation for a Non Profit. Most states have copies of their Articles of Incorporation online.

Covenants (Deed Restrictions), Bylaws, Rules & Regulations, etc. will be specific to your association.

Many Articles of Incorporation will say so and so then add "unless your corporation Bylaws say otherwise". This is especially true in states like SC where they want to allow the corporations do things they way they want with little state government oversight.

As an example. SC Articles of Incorporation say proxies are allowed for corporation voting unless the corporation's Bylaws say otherwise. Thus one's Bylaws could say no proxy voting and the no proxy votings stands for that specific corporation.

Hope this helps.

Debbi, a copy of the AIC should be on file with the County Recorder's Office and may be available on-line, to check the current status of the corporation visit the IL Secretary of State's site.
