Someone in my condo complex has a reverse mortgage on his unit which shares a wall with my unit, but has not lived there for over a year and does little to keep it cleaned outside and probably has the heat turned off or down, etc. Which increases my electric bill.

It's my understanding that those mortgages require the owner to live in the home at least six months per year.

Is there any entity with whom to speak with about this apparent violation of the reverse mortgage? We are obviously not privy to her bank or whoever granted this reverse mortgage.

Yes, i hear your pain Helen; however, unfortunately, u may find out that the issue is between only the owner and the reverse mortgage company.

However, if your condo's are FHA approved, there may be special considerations here...not sure. Do u know whether your condo's are FHA approved?

Sorry about your situation, but unless you're all in for a drawn-out and probably futile process, I think you're stuck with the heat/electric situation. The exterior maintenance should be tackled by contacting your HOA Board/Management Company and following whatever complaint process is established. In time, that should take care of itself.

Let me ask this . . . what would your argument be if someone lived in the home and still didn't use their heat to your liking? I don't think you would have any argument . . . it's their home.

You could always make changes on your side to potentially reduce the electric bill . . . conserve power as much as you can to offset heat costs . . . build out this shared wall on your side, adding more insulation . . . install a gas, pellet, or wood fireplace (yes costly to install but will save electric).

check with the register of deeds for your county or their web site

the mortgage IS recorded

notify the mortgagor / bank of the violation

and

file a signed complaint with the BOD re: outside violations

ps.

the mtge. is no concern of the HOA, merely any covenant violations
