Previously, the board voted to allow some homeowners to put personal items in the common area. One HO has put a bench with planters/flowers, and a fake birdhouse with a flowering vine. One HO has cement planters, bird bath, sun dial, and bird feeder. This HO already has a cement bench by the lake and has added cement bunnies and a decorative flag. These two HO's had yards for years and have felt a need to recreated their yards behind their units. One of these HO's is the president and has gotten his desires for decorating approved. I am writing to ask how to proceed and to curtail this behavior. These folks do not understand that what one HO is allowed to do-all the HO's should be allowed to do and if all of us created similar areas behind our units, our building would soon look very busy and unattractive. I have been elected Pres. of the "architectural/grounds committee". I want to lead the group in setting the precedent for now and in the future. I plan to establish with the group a mission statement. Does anyone have any ideas of how to "undo" the inequitable decorating in our common area?

Check your documents under common areas. Our says that you can't add anything to a common area that would increase the liability to the Association without Board approval.

Good Evening...Our documents state that any decorative yard object be it a sign or statue like in nature which may be seen from common areas or placed on common areas require Board Approval before placement of such object.. I know it's difficult to regulate good taste ,but as you described it could potentially get out of control... Some cemetarys' have adopted these same basic guidelines here in Florida...Maybe yours where you are have something similar that you could look at the wording to see if something may help you out.....LindaC
