I am trying to get my business (dog poop pickup) to homeowners associations around Dallas Texas. I am just curious as how to contact the presidents of these communities or just the members. I am also trying to make special offers for just the homeowners in whatever association wants the poop picked up. How would i go about getting this to them? Everyone I get is not part of the associations because the HOA's are usually in a gated community or do not take solicitations.

Thanks

John

If the associations have websites they might list the property managers contact info in the public section. Or, you can contact property managers listed in the phone book, ask if they handle associations where you want to do business, and go from there.
Or, you could ask people as they enter or leave who the property manager is. Someone might know...

Isn't there a law requiring owners to pick up after their dogs? Are you talking about picking up from yards of individual owners, or roving the whole area and picking up from the common areas?
best wishes with this.

I know that in Northern Virginia the County Govt websites list them all, so you might want to try searching the municipality websites in your area. Also, here's a good site tha might help you. http://www.aboutmyhoa.com/NATLOPEN.htm

Now, you've got me curious here. Our community does have an awful time with some of the neighbors who don't stoop to scoop. We have purchased and conveniently placed bag dispensers in strategic locations. Why would we as a HOA, spend additonal monies for this service? .. and how expensive is this service? On a large site with 311 townhomes, how to you find the golden nuggets?

Yes, i would be going to each individual yard and getting it out of off of their lawn. The price is (for the homeowners association people) 8.00 per week for 1 dog. 2 additional dollars per dog and i would prefer to only do the service weekly. Most people do not pick it up in their back yard and as an additional service to the homeowners association i would reduce the first visit fee from $40.00 to $20.00. This price is only for people who don't pick it up and have excessive amounts.

FWIW: last year we had a big problem with people walking their dogs in the neighborhood and not cleaning up after their animals, either in the common areas or on other people's yards. We hired a service to come in and clean up the common areas, and caught hell from the homeowners for spending the money while they still had to deal with the mess in their yards left behind by other people's dogs.

Around the middle of last summer we put in some trash cans with "Mutt Mitt" dispensers, and the problem seems to have been resolved.

the key is for none to be left behind. and the homeowners would pay for the service, if they wanted it in their yard, and front lawns and common areas would be covered in the contract, for about 8 per lawn i believe.

I don't have a dog but every few weeks find some dog mess in my lawn. Would your service address this? It doesn't seem to unless I hire you to pick up other's mess.

John, your business is no different than a lawn service, a plumbing contractor or electrician. You need to advertise in local papers, possibly TV or radio, and any other way you can think of. I'll give you an idea you may not have thought of - veternarian's and groomer's offices. They often have bulletin boards where people offering animal related services can post their business cards.
