What do you think of the following, and do you think it is a "conflict of interest".

A board member is a local realtor, she is promoted on the assn. website - no other advertisements are listed. Also, what do you think of Board members getting a discounted rate and some free services from the vendors the assn. uses?

Is this legit? Some say that it is part of the "benefits" of being on the BOD.

Why is she allowed to advertise her services on the website free of charge? To me that is blatant misuse of power. Also, any board member who receives a discount from an association vendor would be unethical at best and could be accussed of many more things. Unless that vendor is willing to give that discount to every homeowner and it is advertised to every homeowner that it is available then yes it is a conflict of interest and could signal even bigger problems.

BTW, there are no "benefits" to serving on the BOD. Each board member needs to hold themselves to a higher standard. To me it sounds like some sort of collusion and the homeowners should investigate this.

Shame on your Board Virginia. Not only are these a conflict of interest but they are also being unethical. The realtor could lose her license for doing this! Get the ad off the website immediately and no "benefits". You could suggest your Board pass a resolution related to conflict of interest.
