I am guessing the pool sing was supposed to have read, no food or drink. Could be mistaken.

food and drink are NOT allowed in the actual pool by code

whether food and drink are allowed 'on deck' would be a 'house rule'

HOWEVER

universally the code / permit would PROHIBIT any glass whatsoever in the pool area including the deck

one exception: eyeglasses (some lenses are still actual glass)

James,

Did you bring it to the attention of your Board?
What did they say?

Would you please give us the exact wording of the sign?? Does it say: "Food and drink are allowed in the pool"? There's something not quite right about the words you wrote to us.

Hi James,
Yes - there definitely are rules regarding proper signage for your swimming pool in Florida. We just had our annual inspection and I am attaching a doc which the county sent us as a sample sign we could use. EDIT... sorry file would not attach.

Here is the Florida code....

Florida Administrative Codes
Chapter Title: PUBLIC SWIMMING POOLS AND BATHING PLACES
64E-9.008 Supervision and Safety.

(7) Rules and regulations – Rules and regulations for bathers shall be posted in minimum 1 inch letters which must be legible from the pool deck, and shall contain the following:
(a) No food or beverages in pool or on pool wet deck.
(b) No glass or animals in the fenced pool area (or 50 feet from unfenced pool).
(c) Bathing load: ___ persons.
(d) Pool hours: __ a.m. to __ p.m.
(e) Shower before entering.
Pools of 200 square feet in area or greater without an approved diving well configuration shall have β€œNO DIVING”, in four inch letters included with the above listed pool rules.
(f) For new or modified pools submitted for plan approval application on or after the effective date of this rule, their posted sign shall add: Do not swallow the pool water.

HTH,
Ann

James,

I see that you answered questions from others but not my questions.
Perhaps they were overlooked.

Sounds like a misprint. Your pool is going to be under inspection by the county health department and they are going to notice it. You should just notify the Board of the misprint and they will need to correct it.

You really will never prevent all food or drink from the pool deck. Eating in the pool is a no-no. Always fight against glass bottles at the pool.

James,

Since you haven't responded to my question, I take it that you never brought the issue to your Board.

I find it odd that an individual would seek out a forum like this and ask a question about signage without first taking the issue to the Board.

I do too, Tim, especially since the wording on the sign, no mater how many times James writes it, doesn't seem authentic. "Food and drink IS allowed...??"
