Our board wants to adopt a Board Code of Conduct. For the purpose of making sure we don't put anything in it that conflicts with Va. state law, I'm trying to be sure I have all the relevant Va. code at hand. What applies to HOAs in Virginia? I have the Virginia Nonstock Corporation Act and the Virginia Property Owners' Association Act. Is there anything else that we should be aware of?

Sections of Title 18, Agency 48 of VA Administrative Code specifically Chapter 70 (so far).

Of course, depending on how detailed you want to be, there is also the VA tax code

Thanks. Except for requiring the complaint procedure, there doesn't seem to be much that regulates HOAs or their boards, it's more to do with how the CIC is supposed to operate, right?

Any other thoughts or info you can pass along regarding Codes of Conduct?

Donna,

You are correct that VAC (VA administrative code) mainly deals with establishing a complaint procedure. The point you should recall is that this is what it mainly deals with now. If the State ever decides to require training of Board members, the VAC is likely where the specifics of the requirement would written.

As for Codes of Conduct, I would suggest doing an internet search to see what others are using. I found many examples using "hoa board of directors code of conduct" as the keyword search in google.
