Letter to the editor which appeared in the Myrtle Beach Sun News on March 24, 2014 regarding a SC HOA law. Hopefully the legislators will see the need for some sort of reasonable regulation in the state of South Carolina regarding HOAs.

At the start of that article it says:

"The first type of HOA, homeowner controlled, has several issues to address regarding regulation but in this case it is critical the homeowners have a voice in the election of the board and can replace them if they believe their interests are not being upheld."

I'm of the impression that this is actually addressed in section 33-31-808 of the South Carolina Nonprofit Corporation Act of 1994. Since most Associations are incorporated as a non-profit, this statute would apply.

I don't know if SC needs or doesn't need an additional HOA law.
I'm just pointing out that it appears this reporter failed to complete their research before writing the article.
