I strongly suggest we stop feeding him. Do not respond to anything he says no matter how foolish nor stupid. He will tire and move on.

Yes, and if this website was a knitting circle..that would be appropriate.

But since this website covers a topic that deals with our most valuable investment, our home...

and since many of the folks on this website see nothing wrong with routinely ripping off their elderly or vulnerable

neighbor...because they can.

Well...

I think there are going to be some folks who voice their displeasure about it.

This from the very person who is doing this to his neighbors? Kettle meet black... Your the first one on here who has hurt and damaged his elderly neighbors by their own actions. So don't even begin to go there as I protected our members from greedy self serving people. Especially against those who bring frivolous lawsuits against their HOA's... Gee I wonder how your neighbors social security checks hold up against your increasing the HOA dues to cover your legal costs against them? Mmmm... Facts and reality... Facts and reality...

Yes I see....

I should let the HOA rip me off 6 figures because I should feel bad about the legal costs to the association defending myself.

That is...well....a little crazy ma'me.

In fact, if the association were to go bankrupt like in the Farran case in Virginia....I think we would ALL be better off.

I would LOVE to pay my dues to a governmental trustee running this place, charged with all the transparancy and oversight that every governmental organization is required.

(Maybe for fun, THEY could run a rigged election every year to frustrate the wanna be's in the place)

Yeah it is good to be part of a bankruptsy and get your neighbors into one too... I would advise that if I were right...

Stop feeding by dedicating a thread? Seems a bit counterintuitive. Why do you care if others engage him/her? No one is forcing you to read or respond. As an open forum, it belongs as much to the "troll" as a long-time regular.

Valerie,

I appreciate your comments. I find the participation by all here very helpful. When we stick to the issues and not the personal disputes and agree to disagree, some of us will continue to learn. (Speaking about myself there!) Good advice I need to remember!!!!

Troll....I had to look that up.

"a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people,[1] by posting inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a forum, chat room, or blog), either accidentally[3][4] or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[5] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[6]"

Yes, that person would be a pain in the neck.

However...

Someone who is posting valid concerns about the status quo of the unprotected cookie jar of our assesments and equity

in HOAs today...

That observation can NOT be considered "trolling" and the only folks who could possibly be upset would be those

that are currently profiting from the pathology.

I think Mike's post do represent those out there in HOA's. He does show what HOA's have to deal with as far as the range in HOA members. He is the voice of those who don't attend meetings, pay their dues, sue their HOA's, and claim civil/constitutional violations of the law. It happens and every HOA has one. Hopefully, by debating some of his opinions others who share a similar view can have their eyes opened a bit to the REALITY of those opinions.

You can post all day long hosts of HOA violations, removal of perceived rights, and legal decisions of the past of bad HOA scenerios/stories. Heck, I could just post the living "HE double hockey sticks" I went through in my HOA not only as just a member but as a board member. It was not sunshine and puppies. It was hard work and perseverance.

What us regulars are trying to say is that EDUCATION/PARTICIPATION is the REAL key of having a HOA run. There is no perfect HOA out there and never will be. However, we hope by our advice and experiences we can provide thought provoking and ways of dealing with your HOA in a positive way. We all here have made that happen in our HOA's. Believe me, most of ours were a mess just like yours or worse. We were able to overcome that and make improvements. Something we here just want you to be able to do in the end. Make the best decision not just for yourself but for your neighbors as well. The power of change is in your hands if you just participate, give an effort, and educate.

Shoot Melisa, I thought we were on decent terms here!

My house is meticulously maintained, I have never been late on a single payment...my credit hovers around 800 or so (my wifes is higher).

My wife and I will do anything (within reason) for our neighbors in need.

We are the folks that you WANT to have as your neighbors.

In the begining of this HOA thing (we were the 4th home constructed here) EVERYONE would show up at the HOA meeting.

But after a few episodes where it was clear that the BOD was manipulating the meetings, votes, Declaration ect.

EVERYONE quit going.

We used to have to rent the largest room in the community center in town for our meetings.

Now, with the community almost fully built out....they rent a small closet in the center...and STILL have unoccupied chairs.

The "newsletter" does not even bother to inform us whether they get a quorum or not, what the vote count was ect.

But just like Alices Resturant...we would all come back if there were MANDATED transparency and oversight law imposed on the

place.

But as it stands today, it is a complete waste of time to go to these manipulative things called meetings.

Does anyone else notice the correlation between the non-attendance of members and the board going "Wild"? Mmm... Can anyone connect the two together? Bueler? Bueler?

I agree!

So lets make the meetings actually mean something (enforced by law) instead of it being some Kabuki play where the BOD's will is a fait accompli...

Then we can all "get involved" instead of completely wasting our time trying.

Wow and you still don't attend meetings? Mmm... what a way to put your ideas and plans into effect... Follow the leader, he will be the one on his computer complaining about the HOA meeting he's not attending...

Well Melisa,

Your logic is unassailable.

Kind of like the age old question regarding the chicken and the egg....
