Can anyone give any suggestions on contents for Welcome Baskets (do's and don'ts). Thanks!

In some of the communities we manage, the Welcoming Committee put a copy of the CCR's or handbook of the association. They went to stores in the area and received coupons for the basket. Recent newsletter, a calendar of events for the community as well as a directory for the neighbors (if one exists). Then last but not least was perhaps a baked item, or recipes. Just the visit alone to a new neighbor with a warm smile will make them feel welcomed.

Before being on the board, the women's club I created would give a welcome basket to new homeowners which contained items for a spaghetti dinner (spaghetti/pasta, sauce and a loaf of French bread). We also included coupons and information from local businesses along with a neighborhood directory.

Hi:

Our community includes a mug with the community logo on it, as well as coupons for discounts/free stuff at local stores. Most people like chocolate as well, or coffee...we mail out a welcome packet that includes a welcome letter, a binder with the documents and resolutions, and an invitation to come to our (onsite) office to pick up the welcome goodie box.

A few days ago MikeS1 posted this info on welcome baskets.

" The welcome basket consists of a plastic utility basket, a flashlight, a candle, an inexpensive tackhammer set and picture hangers, along with the magnet holding contact phone numbers for essential services, as well as UM Committees and information."

"http://www.unionmills.com/documents/welcome.pdf has a welcome letter that MikeS1 also directed us to.

The committee can get gift $10 certificates from local restaurants that the restaurants should be happy to give free in order to draw new customers.

We are just starting up our welcome committee. A lady who is experienced in welcoming committees is going to head it and I will be getting together with her to help set up a package.
