Typically you may trim branches that overhang your property. Since the branches are overhanging the road, you may not trim them back without possible repercussion.

I would simply knock on the neighbors door and ask if they mind if you trim the branches that over hang the road because of xyz.

R u on good terms with this person(s)?

If so the solution should be obvious.

If not it can be risky to confront strangers.

If the problem involves common areas then a polite letter to the association expressing your concerns(s) would be prudent.

I do not frequently drive around our entire development so consider that when stating something is obvious and wondering why the HOA has not addressed it.

Does your neighbor own the lot? If not, who does?

Yes, the homeowner does own the vacant lot.

If it is too high or violates local ordinance you could call code enforcement.

international property maintenance code:

grass / weeds 12" high maximum

the typical 'meadow' will meet code

Places like Orange County, FL I believe height of weeds/grass is max 18" but they will also come out for things like excessive debris, tires, trash, etc.

Hi!
I notice that the tree that hangs over the road in the lot between us is very overgrown. Would it be possible to arrange a time to trim the branches back, so that it doesn't hang down so far, and so far out? it would clean up the roadway a lot, improve visibility, and perhaps help with safety of the cars going by. And, it would help the tree too, so it won't lose as many support branches in the next big storm.

I would be happy to help in the project, if there were something I could do. Offer a ladder, hold a ladder, help clean up the branches after they are cut, etc.. I can offer use of my green recycle can as well, to help get rid of the branches. Please let me know, I would like to help you with the trimming, if I can, in any way.

You can reach me at 867-5309 or by just hollering across the driveways, anytime you see me outside!

thanks!
