MESSAGE FROM COMMUNITY123.COM, the owner and builder of HOATALK:
Hi Everyone,
The data center running HOATalk experienced a major disaster this week, resulting in the loss of the HOATalk website. All recent backups in the data center were lost as well. The data center provider used an offsite backup to restore HOATalk to the end of JAN to get us running again.
Community123.com does not own the data center. Rather, we rent the use of it for some sites we operate. Fortunately, our disaster recovery plan is to utilize multiple providers for the services underlying our sites.
Our disaster recovery plan saved HOATalk in this case. We had offsite backups at another provider and was able to restore HOATalk to a state just prior to the disaster.
HOATalk is now back and restored to FEB 19.
We also have the discussions created from FEB 19-23 (today). However, we will not be applying those back to the site due to the high cost and long down time involved in doing so. (The incremental update would require $thousands in programmer time and a day of downtime to accomplish. We have decided to run with the FEB 19 image to prevent downtime and save cost. HOATalk is a free service so we must control costs to keep offering it for free.)
We apologize for any inconvience.
*NOTE: There was no security breach involved in this disaster. It was simply a massive failure of storage hardware owned by our 3rd party data storage provider.
