Is a common interest community considered a non-profit organization? I realize some may and some may not, anyone know how I can confirm?

Chris you can check your CC&R's on file with the County Recorders office. In ours the articles of incorporation are Amendment B. You can also check with the Secretary of State in your state or if your HOA has been filing taxes the name on the tax form i.e Happy Acres HOA, Inc. should give you an idea.

Chris:

See if you can locate your Secretary Of State's office online; check under "Non Profit Corporations."
By the way, it would be classified differently than a charity as far as the IRS code under which it's organized. It would be a "Mutual Benefit" organization.
