I know there is a "procedure" to follow to get the city to fix the streets within our association but I cannot remember what it is. I believe it starts with writing a letter to the city commissioners and then attending a commission meeting and stating your case in person. But if you still get the run-around from the city (i.e. we don't have the money), you can take it to the state and the state can force the city to do their job. I just can't remember what state department that would be. Any help on this would be appreciated. JoAnne

Just your town's street or roads department if your town is big enough. It shouldn't be that complicated.

Better to consult with civil officers...as its a state matter.

Before looking for a fight just call the city and ask to speak to someone in engineering.

Explain your issue(s) and ask them to inspect. Maybe you can meet with them on-site during inspection.

If the city finds your street(s) unsafe they will fix them.

Also check with county. For instance, Orange County has a Roads and Drainage department to contact.

Are your streets public or private? Our are private so we fix them ourself. JMI

A funny think happened just after I wrote a letter to the city regarding the horrible condition of the streets in our community - there was an article in the local paper about the allocation of funds to fix streets in the entire town and ten of the streets are within our association. I have since written another letter to have the city engineer come back and look at two streets he missed to have them added to the list. This has been a long time coming.

Thanks for the update Joanne.
It is appreciated.

Glad things appear to be working out.
