Could you post more information? Are you asking does your HOA need to hire a manager just because it's in Alaska? A HOA can be self managed. A Management company would be a contractor to the HOA. You need to read your documents on what is allowed or required. Our HOA can only be managed by a Management company if we voted to disband. Otherwise, we just used an accountant and ran the place amongst ourselves.

Typically any requirements for hiring a property manager (PM) or a management company (MC) are contained within the governing documents (CC&Rs, Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, Resolutions).

It's more common for condominiums or larger Associations to hire a PM or MC.

I know of no state that says a Property Manager must be hired. In many states they do not even have to have any qualifications to be called a Property Manager.
