For reasons that I will not go into, as a board member and treasure, I am resigning before my term is up. My question is this, in the future can I be appointed again as a board member?

Thanks

Why not? Unless your docs. have a provision for rendering you ineligable in the future for such an action. I've never heard of such a clause. Not even recall prevents future service.

Yes.

You may be appointed by this or a future Board and you may be elected by the membership.

It's like quitting a job. If you left on good terms it's possible to get rehired by the same company. If you left on bad terms, it's likely you will need to wait until management changes before you will be offered another job with that company.

Michael - It's difficult to respond to your forum because by not giving some reason why you must resign leads to a lot of questions. You could say it is for personal reasons to do with family and nothing to do with the Association without making it a mystery as to why you resigned. My answer is based on your inquiry that you don't want to give the reasons why you are resigning. It is also based on you resigned for personal reasons and has nothing to do with wrong doing of anything while serving on the Board. If your record is clean, current with dues and you don't owe the Association money or being sued by the Assoc "yes" you can be appointed by the BOD to replace a Director if one resigns. If a Director doesn't reign you will have to be elected by the Homeowners when time comes to vote for new Directors. Hope this helps.

MichaelJ,

You are a volunteer. Serve at your leisure. Resign if you must. I favor keeping the commitment until the next board election, then not seek re-election - if it's within one year. That way your colleagues, like them or not, can transition smoothly into the new year. I think it benefits your larger community and those neighbors who appreciate your contribution.

Remember, you can always skip a meeting, as many meetings as allowed w/out automatically vacating your seat, if you can't stand the sight of your board members. Been there.
