Our HOA has a online Group in which our board and homeowners can post up coming events, meetings. etc. Announcements.

One of the homeowners posted there were some personal belongings by the pool area, toys, a life preserver that appears to have just be left there for many days or something along those lines. These items were removed and placed in a open common area with the notice asking to pick up these items, and please keep the pool area neat. Also something as if the HOA can not be responsible for left items.

OUR HOA President sent this out on the yahoo site.

The Board does not condone this message. The floats are used daily and so far no one has died as a result. Placing them in a garden planter was not the solution. Face to face communication is. XYZ>> is a homeowner not a Board member and the Board wants to clear up any misconception .
Enjoy the 4th. Further comments can be brought up at the next meeting.

So, this appears as though there is a generic message sent to the homeowners that they can keep personal items in the pool area?

As funny as it sounds, I heard a neighbor say.. I am going to the 99 cents store and buying a bagful of blow up pool toys, and see is this person has a change of heart.

Really what can be done?

Do nothing.

Sounds like the board wanted it known it wasn't them that posted the message. Mission Accomplished.

I also get the impression that the person leaving the items is either on the board, or well known and connected to the board. Hidden message mission accomplished.

Don't add fuel to the fire, don't make a mountain out of this molehill. Keep a copy of the note in your "CYA" file for later use, if you ever get dinged for leaving a toy at the pool. Otherwise, leave these dogs alone, and let them yap at cars.

Our governing docs, specifically our Rules & Regs, don't permit anyone to store anything in any of our common areas. I guess your HOA doesn't have a similar rule, Michele?

No mountain will come of this molehill, but I too read this posting as if it saying " Yes, we know, we don't care". I will be leaving my floating device in the poor area too.. it's obviously what the board thinks is ok. Yes, I am keeping this note that was emailed out.. becuase our board has a bad memory for suchy things.

No our rules do not specifically state you can NOT leave items by the pool.

Not that you asked, Michelle, but I think that the tone of president's post was, um, un-presidential. I also think that whoever removed the toys shouldn't have since there's no rule against storing items in the pool area.

If enough of you think that storing toys (towels, etc.) in the pool area should be prohibited, you & others (as many as possible) can make a written request to the board to put the matter on the next open meeting agenda.

In Calif., adding a rule is pretty easy.

No, but I thought it was a pretty bizarre interaction and was wondering really what can we do. Possibly I think that a request to update rules should be placed toward the board. We have had homeowners get notices to remove towels, etc from the pool over the past 10+ years I have been here. I suppose that it's who you know or the mood of the board at the time..

A blow-up "doll" from an adult store would make a great floatation device but probably cost more than 99 cents. (Just for the record, I have no personal knowledge of these devices and I haven't been in an adult store for at least 3 or 4 days.)

Day 5 after the weird message from our rather unique HOA.

The blow up pool toys.. were placed back in the pool area. ( Oddly enough for something that is used daily, they are still in the same area, not touched... )

OH well.. off to the dollar tree to buy a half dozen pool rings.
