Bonnie if you are referring to an attorney to handle HOA business that is a specific area of legal specialty. Our attorney does HOA/condo issues period. This gives him the knowledge you need to have the best representation

I advise NO Real Estate lawyers as a HOA doesn't deal in real estate. They are a corporation and go by corporate laws. It's best to find a lawyer who deals in contractual laws, business, or specializes in HOA laws. People think a Real Estate attorney is a good option but they deal with house/property closings not the actual practicing of inside a courtroom.

At the end of the day you can argue real estate, corporate law, etc...however, I would search for someone who has experience handling HOA's and ask for references. In reality there are things a real estate lawyer may get tripped up on and things a corporate lawyer may get tripped up on.
