Yes, for social activities which allow all members to participate. The percentage of income budgeted will vary depending on the desires of association but should be limited IMO.

2% of our annual budget is allotted for social activities. It is a great way to meet new neighbors and have a good time.

We do budget for Social Activies and most are enjoying our block parties and Holiday party.I have been questioned twice on the leagality if all residence do not particapate. All homeowners do have the opertunity to particapate and some choose not to join in the fun.
Thank you for your response.

We haven't had any social activities. It does seem like a good idea. My next door neighbor was trying to organize a "block party" for the entire association. Then she realized that eventually someone would need to use the restroom and she didn't want strangers running through her house (I can't really blame her and didn't offer to let them use my house instead) so the party never happened.

I suppose we could rent an outhouse for a day.

Ron, if the block party is held outside why can't the owners can go to their own home if they need to use the restroom. We hold our picnics in the park of a greenbelt. The HOA provides BBQ beef and chicken, soft drinks, paperware and plastic eating utinsels, canopies, chairs, and tables. Each owner brings a dish for a pot luck dinner. There are games for the young and old. It's a great way to bring the neighborhood together and is less than 0.5% of the total HOA expenses.

Another things which our HOA does is to rent a rolloff dumpster each spring. It allows homeowners to get rid of large items, landscaping materials, etc. (no hazardous materials). This has been very successful.

In my opinion, the key is if everyone in the community receives the same notices of the party at the same time. It is up to the individuals if they choose to not participate.

Our city will pick up all the items you mention and the trucks run once a week (at least we get something for our $700 per year in city taxes)!

Yes, they could go to their own homes to use the restroom but you can be sure a few would ask to use the closest homes instead. Especially the ones with young children.

I think it's a great idea and something to think about once it warms up. We'll have to consider the outhouse rental though.
