Our building manager is giving us a gift of chairs for our community room. She will have people vote on what type of chair they want. She said "one butt, one vote". That makes since to me.

In NE each unit has a certain percentage they are allowed for a vote. Mine is 1.997% two bedroom units have a higher percentage.

Since this is a gift and no association funds will be used, do you think I am correct in assuming we do not have to use the percentage to determine the outcome.
As Secretary, I am not fond of percentages, but it is a State Law.

Since it is the building manager holding the vote not the HOA, no you don't have to use percentages.

Studies show that 5 out of 4 people have problems with fractions

Sorry - but you were wrong with allowing the giver to dictate HOW her gift would be accepted.

This is going to be a mess.

IMHO, a committee should have been picked and that committee choose the chair style.

Good luck with this one.

I don't see anything wrong with what is going on here, the gifter simply wants a vote of people as to which chair they want and she will give it. In my opinion never look a gift horse in the mouth unless there are crazy restrictions with it, I don't see that in this scenario.

Blah-h-h.
This is committee work.
Can you imagine the hassle in even getting all members to vote?? Probably most or a big group will not even give a hoot.
Already there is controversy about what "majority" means in the vote.

I say any voting is a hassle. Why not have the BOD select? Executive decision..LOL

i would rather accept the gift given by the manager on her simple terms of a vote than not accept it all...just my 2 cents

We, as a board, have asked owners for "an advisory" vote on some common area elements, e.g., paint color for one of our community rooms. We've placed sample paint colors recommended by our Building Committee on the wall of the room and gave owners a week or two to turn their "votes" into management.

The Board met and decided on the color. Owners really "didn't give a hoot," we received maybe a dozen votes (200+) units. But owners did like being consulted.

Pics of 3-4 chair styles/colors might be posted in Bonnie's HOA and let owners give their input. There's no need for secret ballots, etc. This can be simple, at no cost, and you all can enjoy your gift.

Well done.

Ask for input, open communications, etc. but when little to no input and/or push comes to shove, put on ones big girl panties and make the decision.

Well done.
