Is it legal for my HOA board to make a rule stating that it is mandatory for me to use the management company contracted to the association to manage my rental unit? They will be charging a 6% fee of the monthly rent. I live in Texas if that matters.

And what happens if you don't? What "services" will be supplied for that 6%?
I don't know Texas law, but if rental management is not addressed already in your documents, I doubt a board would have the power to enact that without the proper percentage consent of your members. Are there problems with rentals now? The board already has the authority to enforce the CC&Rs thru the owner. Sounds like a power grab by your MC for more revenue. Harold

What authority would your board have over you on this issue. To me it sounds like abuse of power and both your board and your MC should be slapped on the hand and whereever else appropriate.
