From the time an HOA is started how long do they last? Do they go on forever or is there a limit in years?

Read your documents, the answer should be in there. If there is common property then something has to be set up to take care of that but there is usually a time frame in your docs for the length they are valid.

Jim,

HOA can be perpetual unless you dissolve it (see your Articles of Incorporation and state laws for not-for-profit ,if applicable).

Nevertheless, the Covenants must be 'restored' usually after 25-30 years in most states REGARDLESS what the document say. If you let the Covenants expire you will have no Association because none of the restrictions would be enforceable and consequently you could not collect dues. Do you have any specific concerns?
