After our second annual meeting last month, the Board voted for officer positions among themselves and we elected a new President.

The person voted out of the officer position was upset and took it very personally. His wife confronted me in the street the next day to accuse the board of "conspiring" amongst ourselves and having "secret discussions" behind his back to have him removed. She was especially angry with me because I nominated the new Pres.

The only discussion I had with any Board member prior to the vote was to ask the current President if he would accept the nomination.

The ex president sent out an email to the Board accusing us of being underhanded, not following procedure etc etc and there was a heated exchange for a few days.

Fast forward one month to yesterday, his wife confronted another board member outside his residence basically stirring the pot all over again with more lies and accusations.

The real problem is that the ex president (and current Board member)appears to support her strange behavior.

Anyone advice on how to deal with this?

Valerie,

Isn't that the way it's supposed to work according to your bylaws?

1. Hold annual meeting and elect board members (some may be new to the board).
2. New board meets and holds an "organizational meeting" during which the officers for the next year are elected.

There's no guarantee that any officer will retain his/her position. An individual may be re-elected to the same position, or elected to a different position, or not elected to any position at all.

Your previous president and his wife need to grow up an realize that's how the system works. There's nothing personal about it (unless he was a lousy president).

Valerie,

In Florida, this is the only time the Board of Directors can vote by secret ballots to elect officers. Can you adopt the same practice?
