I have heard that T1-11 is being discontinued. Does anyone know if this is true and what alternatives for replacement are recommended. Thanks.

A google search on the subject of T1-11 being discontinued turns up nothing. A seach on T1-11 turns up installation hints, sources, etc. but no mention of it being discontinued.

I suggest you ask your local building supply vendors and/or home centers to confirm or deny this rumor.

Sandra The alternate and a far better product is Hardi Plank Siding-- It is a cementious product and is widely used here in Florida in lieu of T 111.....As far as I know T- 111 is not being discontinued as I still spec it on my projects for ceiling applications for that "country" look..I hope this helps Linda C

Ok, I'll the one to ask the dumb question. What are you talking about? What's a T1-11?

Randy- T 111 is an exterior wood siding normally used on the exterior of wood frame homes or as I previously stated I spec for some ceiling applications.....Hope this helps Linda C

we are going through this with our commuity---we were built in 1981 with t1-11 siding. Hardiplank is the new material but used for horizontal siding not supposed to be good for vertical. The new product for veritical is CetainTeed.

It's basically just plywood with vertical groves cut into the face of the board. Definately high maintenance and usually stained.
It's a 70's thing.

They definately still sell it and they use it alot on storage shed kits. You might not be able to find it in stock at your local Home center, but they might be able to order it. Check also your independant lumber yards. On another note, I know that a lot of the HOA's are trying to maitain the color palatte and soft earthtones of the 70's; but at the same time they want "maintanance Free", so some of them are switching over to some of the good quality vinyl products. I know one community authorized what I can the vinyl siding that looks like fake cedar shakes. Very popular material at the beach and it seems to hold up, unlike the early vinyl products. ALSO CHECK OUT THE FIBRE CEMENT SIDING PRODUCTS!

I second the recommendation for Hardi-Plank. Great stuff.
