Our HOA has had a PO Box as a legal address for all mail. Two of the board members now would like to use a homeowners address and have already began to forward mail to the private address. Is this a good idea?

I don't think so. Do these board members plan on being on the board indefinitely?

It may be as simple as a phone call your local postoffice. Speak to a supervisor and tell them you would like to add a USPS approved mailbox to receive mail at a location within your community that you own or lease. A viable location could be in front of your clubhouse or pool.

Kim's suggestion is a good one.

Does your corporate Annual Report use P.O. Box address? What address does your Registered agent use? I ask because you may have to change that also.

Our HOA official address is the street address of the clubhouse, which has a mailbox. However, most HOA mail goes to the management company, which is also the address for our registered agent.

It's kind of tricky. There are some small legal issues. A post office box is difficult to serve warrants or legal actions to. A house/business should have a physical address with a mailbox. However, like Bruce, our HOA used our clubhouse as the official address of the HOA. The bookkeeper took care of the mail. We had a box at the entrance the mail went into that also went directly to the bookkeeper. The bookkeeper happened to live in our HOA.

We had to use an owner's name and address when we setup our utilities too. There are some legal address issues that do come up when conducting business. A Post Office box doesn't cover some areas. It may be a good idea to have an official address to use.

Thanks for all the comments. As the HOA VP, I'm against changing to a homeowners address for a list of reasons. Most relate to only one person having access to our mail. I appear to be in the minority so there's not much I can do but voice my concerns.
