I've been board pres. for several months, and we 7 directors meet monthly. When we begin discussing a New Business agenda item and cannot finish it, e.g., need more info from our PM or whatever, that item appears on the following month's agenda as Unfinished Business.

But, for the first time, there was a New Business item that we didn't discuss at all as we ran out of time. We postponed it to the Sept. meeting.

Does it become Unfinished Biz nest month? Or is it still New Biz? Thanks!

Since it wasn't started, I'd leave it as new business.

However, unless you are required to follow Roberts Rules of Order, I'm not sure it really matters as long as the item is carried over to the next month.

Carol,

Do you have a hard cut-off time for adjourning the meeting? Is it possible for a majority of the board to vote against adjournment and continue the meeting until all new business is covered?

Thanks, all. I'll place it in New Biz for the Sept. meeting.

No, Lawrence, we don't have a set cut-off time. But, at the beginning of the meeting, our HOA guest insurance agent presented info about common area earthquake coverage for our 2-25 story towers, and also info about plate glass coverage. There were a lot of questions from directors & h'owners. By the time we started to conduct business it was an hour later. By the time we got to the agenda item in question, both the director who'd placed it on the agenda & another who's knowledgeable about the topic had to leave the meeting. So all agreed to postpone it.

We did complete our other New Biz items.
