If your association has a suggestion box on the property, do you allow anonymous comments? Is the box centrally located or on the President's door? Locking or not?

We don't have one.

Personally, I'm at the age of thinking that if you can't own what you say perhaps it shouldn't be said.

I agree Tim. At 51, if I say it I own it. But, if you want true opinions from people, and you are solicting their opinion, you should give them an option to disclose or not to disclose. Sorta like voting. Then you will get people to offer their true and honest opinion.

Centrally located and locked. That is the nice thing about having your own association forum on a website.

You cannot require someone to write their name down, but you could ignore all the comments without a name. Its not in the best interest of your HOA to ignore legitimate problems just because someone didn't want to reveal who they are.

The best suggestion box is attending meetings...We had a locked box for collecting our dues but people could use it to put notes/suggestions in it as well. I posted my phone number on the bulletin board.(With suggested best time to call info). Any notes we received in the box was OPEN for discussion at our board meetings. It was where our business was done out in the open so if you submitted something it would be brought up in the meeting for ALL to hear. (I may keep it anonymous out of respect).

A GOOD HOA there's no need for a suggestion box as communication is open. However, I am not against a suggestion box being put in an open area locked with only the MC/President having a key. There are times where people do want to share something but don't want to say it at a meeting in front of everybody. Every member has an opinion and the right to share it.

Put up a suggestion box or have people submit their opinions/ideas when they mail in their due payments. Anonymous is up to the people who suggested it...

Yep, That would be thought! If you cannot own up to it by signing your name, I would toss it in the garbage. How childish to file a complaint and then not own up to it.

It's called a "Suggestion Box" unfortunately some people take offense because they might not like you so by putting your name on anything you are looking for trouble. I have made suggestions in the past no names no finger pointing only to receive some really nasty letters or have them presented at a meeting these were drafted by the officers.

What is more important, the name, or the problem?
