Sometime in 1998 there were numerous posting regarding the obligation of HOA's to send 1099 forms to certain vendors. The comments were diverse and I understand the tax laws may be changing in this regard. Please update me on the current obligations of HOA's to send 1099 forms to vendors. Also if the Association's social club hires a band to play at a function should they receive a 1099? Any advice as to whether or not to pay vendors in cash vs. checks? Thank you. Jean

My association provides a 1099-misc only to an independent contractor we hired for bookkeeping services. We do not provide 1099s to companies we contracted with to perform services (as they are corporations and do not require one).
